Dandelions and Daisies
This embroidery was inspired by walking amongst the ruins at Hailes Abbey. I imagined the once beautiful tiled floors and wondered about the fragments of broken tiles that might be beneath my feet under the grass and Daisies.
I made some print blocks of medieval tile patterns and printed them onto pieces of Habutai Silk. I then stitched them to a background fabric of Silk Bourette which I had dyed green with Procion Dyes.
Next I Free Machine Embroidered the foliage for the flowers onto Water Soluble Fabric and pieces of Green Organza. This foliage was then stitched on top of the tile patterns.
The flowers were Free Machine Embroidered individually onto Silk Organza, cut out and applied to the foliage.
The finishing touches were added with Hand Stitching.
