This embroidery was inspired by the Horseshoe Arches and Mosaic Tiles of Andalusia in the warm evening glow of the sun.
The background was painted with silk paints in muted colours using a wet in wet technique allowing the colours to merge. When dry the background was printed all over with geometric patterns from wooden print blocks to hint at the complexity of the mosaic tiles.
The Horseshoe Arch was then printed on top and further geometric patterns printed in gold paint.
The whole piece was then hand stitched using a variety of stitches in various threads including metallics.
Finally a few small gold beads were added as highlights and a final layer of texture.
